Cure The Streets - UPTOWN

Cure the Streets is a public safety program launched by OAG aimed at reducing gun violence. It operates in discrete high violence neighborhoods using a data-driven, public-health approach to gun violence by treating it as a disease that can be interrupted, treated, and stopped from spreading.

ONSE VIs

Launched in 2018, the Violence Intervention Initiative is a collaborative community engagement strategy designed to support District residents and reduce the incidents of gun-related violence in District communities. The VI initiative accomplishes this work by:

  • Stabilizing communities following a violent conflict
  • Offering support to individuals at high risk of being directly involved in violence, whether as a victim or perpetrator

Family Success Center(s)

Social determinants of health, violence prevention priority areas, and reports of child abuse and neglect informed the selection of the Families First DC Success Center locations. The centers offer programs such as nutrition workshops, professional development training, stress management, and parenting classes.

Advancing Health Literacy

Since 2021, DC Health’s Office of Health Equity (OHE) has led the Advancing Health Literacy Project (AHLP) funded by the Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, in collaboration with internal DC Health partners including the Community Health Administration (CHA), and the Office of Communication and Community Relations (OCCR). The AHLP also leveraged work funded by the CDC, launched in parallel, that was focused on addressing health disparities in the community by enhanced engagement of residents in COVID-19 vaccine acceptance. With an overall goal of improving organizational, professional, and individual health literacy in the District
